She currently sails on four and five day itineraries to Cozumel from New Orleans, Louisiana. She went into service in 1990, and was initially based out of the Port of Miami. Due to the oil spill on the Mississippi River near the Crescent City Connection bridge on July 23, 2008, the Carnival Fantasy was homeported in Mobile, Alabama and underwent a 28 day drydock. After the drydock, Carnival Fantasy was again homeported in New Orleans. On August 18, 2008 Carnival announced that the Carnival Fantasy would be permanently based out of Mobile, Alabama beginning in November 2009 replacing the Holiday. On January 28, 2008 Carnival Cruise Lines announced that Carnival Fantasy will go into drydock in the Fall of 2008 and will be the third ship to receive the full Evolutions of Fun upgrade that her sister ships Carnival Inspiration and Carnival Imagination received in 2007
